Position Objectives

6:00 am – 4:00 pm, Tuesday-Saturday. 

 

Performs responsible work collecting and transporting solid waste and recyclable materials from collection sites to the transfer station or recycle center.

Duties and Responsibilities

An employee in this position is responsible for collecting waste and recyclables from several convenience centers, schools, and local government offices throughout McDowell County. Employee must be able to safely and proficiently operate vehicles that require Class B Commercial License. Vehicles will include but are not limited to a 30 cubic yard front load compactor truck, a roll off container truck, and occasionally a wheel loader with a front-end loader. Driving and operating heavy trucks, front end loaders, forklifts and any other equipment that is associated with this position. This position is responsible for operating heavy equipment in a safe and effective manner to minimize the risk of injury, property damage or loss of life. Performs all daily safety equipment checks and operator maintenance of above equipment. Reports all public complaints/concerns to Public Services Manager.

Minimum Requirements

Must be able to operate Heavy Equipment & drive truck. Driver Operator will load open top trucks with Recyclables, Cardboard & Glass. This position will also be responsible for keeping the yard clean and free of debris. Mechanical knowledge and understanding of heavy equipment and trucks helpful, with the ability to perform daily service checks on all equipment. 

 

ACCOUNTABILITY: 

Reports to Public Services Manager

ENVIRONMENTAL:

 Outside 95% Inside 5%

Desirable Training and Experience

Experience driving/operating heavy equipment preferred. 

Class B CDL required.
